As Seen on Twin Cities Live

Today's Twin Cities Live Beauty Guru segment featured the 2012 Pantone Color of the Year: Emerald Green.  Not only is it my favorite color (which makes me think this will be a lucky year!) it's also a really fun addition to the makeup bag.

Nail polish is the absolute easiest way to get in on a color trend, especially if you're not exactly sure the color is for you.  At less than $6 a bottle, nail polish is one of the ultimate affordable luxuries.  I painted my nails (fingers and toes) with Sonia Kashuk's rich green shade, Emerald City.  Although the polish itself didn't impress me (my nails chipped much sooner than usual) the color certainly did.  Revlon Colorstay Longwear Nail Enamel has no problems in the chipping department (this formula lasts at least a week on my nails) and the glittery Rain Forest is a lot of fun to use on just the tips of nails - a look I've been loving (and Pinning a lot of) lately.

I've been wearing this Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Liner Pencil in Jungle Green almost non-stop since discovering it a few weeks ago.  Instead of the more standard dark brown liner that I along my waterline, or really close to my lower lashes, I've been reaching for emerald eyeliner.  The look is not overly dramatic, just a little more fresh.  Emerald green picks up flecks in hazel eyes, warms up brown, and pops blue eyes beautifully.  It's also a great way for those of us with green peepers to wear emerald green, since too much of the color elsewhere on the eye would be green-overload.

And finally - the smokey eye!  Swapping shades of green in for the more typical black or gray really amp up a smokey eye.  And for a lot of women, dark green is more wearable and less intimidating than black.  I always make a mess of my face when using dark shadows, so I like to employ the simple tape trick that's demonstrated in the TCL video.  As for the shadow I used, it's another Revlon Colorstay product - which is all over a terrific drugstore line.  The quad is called Enchanted.   The color payoff is pretty good, especially for an eye quad that's priced under $6; the shades are very buildable so your smokey eye can be subtle or dramatic.  I also like the other shades that are paired up with the emerald green in this particular compact - it eliminates the guessing game of, "What should I wear with green on my eyes?"

I'll  include a link to a video of the segment, plus full details of what I wore outfit in my next post, so check back for that!
